Kottayam Central Diocese is one of the 30 dioceses of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The diocese was created in 1982. This diocese is in the direct control of Catholicos of the East (Malankara Metropolitan). The current Metropolitan of the diocese is the Malankara Metropolitan H.H Baselios Marthoma Mathews 3. The head office is located in Devalokam Aramana, Kottayam. This diocese was officially created by the partition of Kottayam Diocese in 1982. The diocese has always been under the control of the Catholicos of the East (Malankara Metropolitan). During the time of Baselios Mar Thoma Mathews I, Kottayam diocese was divided, and this diocese was created on April 21, 1982. The diocese was formed with parishes situated in Kottayam diocese but controlled directly by the Malankara Metropolitan. The Malankara Metropolitan is the Metropolitan of this diocese. The head office of this diocese is in Devalokam Aramana, the head office of Malankara Orthodox Church.
With a long history, tradition and faith, Malankara Orthodox Church operates as Kottayam Devalokam Aramana center with the priestly tradition and faith handed down from generation to generation starting from St. Thomas , one of Christ's disciples. Since the establishment of the Catholicate in 1912, the Head of the Church, who has been ruling under the name of Baselius, has been administering the Dioceses and parishes spread across India and abroad under the Constitution of 1934.
On the recommendation of the Malankara Orthodox Church Managing Committee, with the approval of the Holy Episcopal Synod, on April 21, 1982, His Holiness Marthoma Mathews I issued a kalpana, number 110/82, divided the Kottayam Diocese into three sub-dioceses namely Kottayam Central, Kottayam and Idukki. The Diocese metrapolitan of Kottayam Central Diocese is the Cathlicose of the east and Malankara Metrapolitan, has been holding the administrative responsibility since June 1, 1982. Devalokam Aramana Chapel, Vallikat Dayara and Old Seminary Chapel are also included in this Bhadrasana which has 8 parish churches.
